The Honda Stepwagon sold on the Japanese Domestic Market

The Honda Stepwagon - badged "Stepwgn" - is a people carrier which made its debut on the Japanese market in 1996. The model that we import and the one which this website is dedicated is the third generation which was introduced in 2005. We import the Stepwagon as a new and used vehicle from Japan.

The Japanese drive on the left and so their domestic market vehicles are right hand drive. The safety and environmental standards for Japan are also very similar or comparable to those in Europe with the exception of noise and emissions. To allow us to register the Stepwagon in the UK we have need to prove compliance with these European standards which we do so using a low volume type approval test operated by government agency VOSA - it is called ESVA. The ESVA test is one of the most stringent in the EU and is recognised by almost all other member states.

This is all included in our list prices and gives peace of mind that the vehicle meets the demanding European safety and environmental standards.

Spares, Service and Repairs

Although it is not a model officially sold here in the UK, you should find that your local Honda dealership will be able to give full parts, service and repair support.

We have a regular air freight service of parts from Japan should delivery times ever be unacceptable through the traditional supply chain. A 5 working day timescale is our target subject to stock availability.

Our online store is also aimed to give a next day mail order delivery for many common service and replacement parts. We also offer full service and body shop repair service from our Bristol premises.

Owners Documents

Included in our list price is full conversion to UK specification, registration and number plates. We also supply an English handbook which has been professionally translated from the Japanese version.

Once registered you will receive a vehicle log book issued by the DVLA and ongoing ownership is the same as owning a UK supplied vehicle. All new vehicles are registered on the applicable new registration mark whilst used vehicles receive an age related mark based on their date of first registration in Japan.

At 3 years of age the Stepwagon is due its first MOT and this must be renewed annually from then on - identical to a UK supplied vehicle.

Basically, future ownership of a Honda Stepwagon is identical to any UK supplied vehicle.

Insurance and Insurance Group

Your current insurer may not recognise the Honda Stepwagon but this should not stop you obtaining a competitive quote for a fully comprehensive policy. There are many brokers who operate specialist schemes to accommodate the Stepwagon.

At present, there is no official insurance grouping for the Stepwagon. The insurance grouping of a vehicle is decided by the ABI - Association of British Insurers. At present the ABI have not carried out their assessment but we have been advised by a specialist broker that they treat the car as equivalent to a group 14.
